Tobacco control advocates from across the continent will gather in Accra in November this year to discuss the biggest issues in tobacco control during the second Africa Conference on Tobacco Control and Development.

Under the theme Breaking Barriers, Building Futures: Advancing the Tobacco Control Ecosystem in Africa, the conference aims to bring together people who make up the tobacco control universe in Africa to discuss priorities for the continent going forward.

The conference follows the hugely successful first conference on tobacco control and development which took place virtually in 2021 under the theme A Tobacco Free Africa: An urgent call for joint action.

The conference is jointly organised by the Centre for Tobacco Control in Africa and the Africa Capacity Building Foundation. It takes place over two days from November 13 to 14 in Accra, Ghana and will be hosted at the Labadi Beach Hotel.

It’s been more than twenty years since the World Health Organization enacted its Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC). Significant strides have been made in tobacco control. But on the African continent, tobacco use is undergoing an epidemiological transition where the communities are receptive to its usage.

The conference will discuss some of the most important issues in tobacco control including tobacco usage trends, the latest research, young people and tobacco, environmental issues, new and emerging products as well as funding and sustainable among others.

It will provide a chance for experience sharing and lessons learnt on the tobacco control journey thus far.

Stay tuned for further updates on the conference, its programme, speakers and special guests and call for abstracts on the website https://actd.africa and its social channels.
